How To Use Search Engine Optimization To Increase Your Affiliate Marketing Traffic!

Wednesday, Feb 13, 2008

Asking how to increase traffic with search engine optimization is basically the same as asking how to increase traffic. They're really the same. Of course there are other ways to increase your traffic, such as targeted ad buys, but search engine optimization is core to a successful website. In short, without effective optimization, you cannot expect to compete with other websites in your industry.

To effectively optimize your site, you need to include content that's relevant to your affiliate links. In addition, you should optimize each HTML title so it contains the most vital keywords.

Generally, search engine optimization isn't that different for an affiliate marketing site than it is for a standard website. The name of the game is building relevant traffic. For either an affiliate marketing site or name brand website, the idea is the same: to bring in web referrals from search engines of surfers who are looking for a specific product or service.

Optimizing Affiliate Sites

Affiliate sites differ from standalone websites in that an affiliate site is mainly content-based, rather than product-based. To this end, search engine optimization corresponds with the affiliate model because original content is a core optimization technique. The strength of a website's ranking rests on incoming links and organic content housed on the site. Other issues, such as coding for titles and pictures also come into play.

Let's look at content first. Many affiliate sites are content-based -- a wealth of information in the form of blog posts, forum posts and articles aimed at generating traffic to sell affiliate products. Think of a small business website. The site may sell a string of products with very limited information about their chosen industry.

This is where affiliate sites start ahead of the game. Since content creation is so important to a successful affiliate site, search engine optimization is already a part of affiliate marketing.

Search Engine Optimization Tips

At least that's how it should be. To effectively optimize your site, you need to include content that's relevant to your affiliate links. If you're also using pay per click, the landing page has to be relevant to your content. In addition, you should optimize each HTML title so it contains the most vital keywords. Using title tags for the main title and subheadings is also important to search engine spiders.

Content has another important use as well -- building incoming links. The more useful and informative your site, the more attractive it will be to potential link partners. A content-only optimization campaign is only half the job. You must always be looking to make link trades as well. The more links that come in, the higher your content will rank so that you can bring in traffic organically without having to pay per click.
