Interview with successful affiliate Harrison 16 years old

Wednesday, Oct 1, 2008

Hi is 16 years old and has already made some serious money of affiliate marketing. Harrison has been working with affiliate marketing since 2006. When he is not starting new campaigns and speculating for the next hot affiliate segment you can find him at cpashare.com handing out great affiliate tips like free candy.

People ask me "Why I started doing affiliate market" etc and I really don't know how to answer that question. I had no drive to just randomly start doing PPC etc, It just kind of...Happened

To start off, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started with affiliate marketing.
I got started with affiliate marketing back in 2006 when I was running a MySpace resource site, I was sick of getting paid miniscule amounts for thousands of clicks so I signed up for a few affiliate networks & started to try and monetize better using CPA offers.

When & Why did you start with affiliate marketing?
I started out monetizing websites I already owned back in 2006, I than adapted to the 'Affiliate' business and spent most of my time generating leads through Pay-Per-Click. People ask me "Why I started doing affiliate market" etc and I really don't know how to answer that question. I had no drive to just randomly start doing PPC etc, It just kind of...Happened

For how long have you been working with affiliate marketing?
About 2 years

Tell us about your first affiliate project.
I started our trying to make a ringtone campaign. Surprisingly enough I was breaking even, and sometimes even making a profit on AdCenter paying about .30 per click. The campaign didn't last very long but it helped me gain the confidence to really start figuring out PPC & how to do it efficiently.

Tell us about your current projects.
Now I am spending less time doing affiliate stuff. Although I spend quite a bit of time on PPC it's not always for affiliate marketing anymore. I spend a lot of time on these 2 other projects now: www.Blitzlocal.com for small business search engine marketing, and www.Leaderclicks.com for monetizing social applications. You can also check out my blog too: www.cpashare.com

What are the pros and cons working as an affiliate?
A Pro of being an affiliate is the fact that you truly don't have a boss and will not get "Fired" for not working on a campaign. You have that flexibility to do what you want to do and really chose how hard you work. A con of affiliate marketing is the fact that although you have the flexibility to do what you want and work as hard as you want many affiliates including my self just work a little too hard. We become Work-A-Holics!!

How long did it take for you to become a "successful" affiliate?
About 6 months. When I initially started doing affiliate stuff on my websites it was full profit since my websites were the traffic sources but that didn't last for very long & was very low volume. When I started playing around in search it took me about 5 months to become truly successful with PPC.

How much have you earned from affiliate marketing?
Enough

In your experience, is it hard to make an income on affiliate marketing?
No it isn't. I see people struggle all the time and it is usually the same flaw - That people aren't willing to truly invest true amount of capital into campaigns to learn and scale correctly.

Any tips on how to become a successful affiliate?
There are a lot of ways to do AM successfully. If you really want a 'tip' e-mail me what type of affiliate 'tip' you want and I'll hook you up. Harrison at leader clicks dot com

What is your view on the affiliate marketing business today?
I think it is still a great place to be. But some parts of this business are problematic: I continue to see affiliate networks pop up which just continues to saturate the market and make it harder for networks to not have to continuously negotiate etc. It's also frustrating being in the USA as an affiliate because I see governing agency's like the FTC & Attorney Generals pestering numerous advertising companies online for no reason - It's pretty lame.

Any additional forecasts for the affiliate marketing industry?
I see the affiliate marketing industry really consolidating over the next 3 years. There are so many companies that really provide no benefit to the affiliate marketing industry that will dissipate. I also believe that search will become more restrictive as Google keeps tightening there rules which will really refine the amount of successful search affiliates.
