    1. When was your company first formed and what was the business model and idea behind it?

    We formed the company in 2009 with the idea of driving traffic to a website with great potential to attract attention for insurance customers struggling with the effects of the economic recession. We believed that by providing good information about insurance products and the industry in addition to a rate quote engine, we could help people find comprehensive coverage at a more affordable rate.

    2. How, when, and why did you become interested in the insurance industry?

    I began working with insurance online in 2002. I watched consumer interest in Internet-based coverage data grow steadily, and so I began to work and research the web-based insurance vertical.

    3. What need were you trying to address in the insurance marketplace?

    Basically we kept it simple: better inform the consumer about insurance topics and provide a simple method to compare rate quotes online.

    4. How did you refine your goals to meet consumer needs?

    We watched our traffic, paid attention to reader feedback, and constantly streamlined and refined our presentation to meet the needs people expressed to us.

    5. Can you describe a representative cross-sampling of your site visitors?

    Because we don’t collect data on our visitors, it’s hard to say exactly, but in general we feel they are younger insurance customers, probably 40 and under. This is the generation most comfortable in the online environment and the ones who want to deal with their business on the Internet and via email as much as possible.

    6. What types of insurance most interests your readers?

    Mainly auto insurance. By law in every state except New Hampshire, drivers have to carry coverage on their vehicle to keep their license. Consequently, car insurance is the most widely researched coverage product online.

    7. What kinds of supplemental information do you provide besides rate quotes?

    We have article information on a wide range of insurance types and products. The more consumers learn about insurance, the better decisions they can make. We try to follow developments in the industry, as well as supply explanatory and “how to” pieces on finding discounts and judging policy terms and benefits.

    8. How has the recession affected your customers needs and your interactions with them?

    Frankly, I can’t draw a direct correlation. The recession hit so unevenly, affecting consumers at different times and due to different circumstances, that our traffic has been up and down. The most clear indicator I can point to, however, is an increased interest in anything related to auto insurance and growing interest in health care articles in the face of new federal reforms.

    9. What are your future plans for the site?

    As dull as it may sound, we’ve just stayed the course. I think we provide a solid mix of educational, practical articles and clear, workable tools our visitors use to get rate quotes. We’ve continued to watch the industry and the marketplace and responded to changes and trends as we detect them. My own interest has become engaged by some other ventures, and I’m discussing selling the site to a company group. If that comes to fruition, I feel confident they’ll follow a very similar course to the one we’ve plotted out.

    10. What changes do you predict will occur in the coming year, especially in regard to health insurance?

    I am interested in the growing popularity of pay-as-you drive insurance policies that seek to evaluate individual driver risk profiles based on actually mileage and driving habits. I think those insurance products will keep getting better and the demand for them will increase. As for health insurance, more traffic is being driven to the site as people are trying to understand what the government is doing and how it will affect their rates and coverage. We’re focusing a lot of our article space on that topic right now.
